William O. Schaefer Elementary School ~ Cottage Lane Elementary School

Membership

Committee Chairperson:

Marisa Marrone

This committee is responsible for inviting every parent, teacher, school personnel, and any interested citizen to join and support the PTA. By operating membership tables at appropriate school events (especially back-to-school nights), the annual Volunteer Fair, and other membership events, committee members promote and encourage PTA membership, keep members involved and engaged and maintain membership and volunteer lists. The Chairperson is responsible for tracking membership dues, collecting all funds, maintaining accurate records, reporting unit membership to the NYS PTA, and distributing membership cards. The Chairperson acts as liaison with the Executive Committee/Board and works to ensure all committee members/volunteers follow SOCES PTA polices/procedures.

WHY BECOME A PTA MEMBER?

Click to Join SOCES PTA

You hear it all the time - join the PTA!  But why should you, really?  Well, because our entire community benefits from it - homeowners, parents, businesses, teachers, and most importantly the students!

Becoming a member of the SOCES PTA doesn't necessarily mean volunteering. But it does mean you support the work we do. Join today - even if you DO NOT have a child in one of the elementary schools. Extended family, business owners, and anyone else can join the PTA. Just use our convenient PayPal option or send the form with your donation to William O. Schaefer Elementary School, 140 Lester Drive, Tappan, NY 10983, ATTN: SOCES PTA Membership.

That said, SOCES PTA is your opportunity to get involved at school. SOCES PTA is YOUR voice. In the past few years, PTA members took part in the selection of many new teachers and administrators, including our new Superintendent and our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

SOCES PTA is an opportunity to share in community activism and make a difference. Members attend events and meetings with our County legislators to advocate for reasonable, effective education policy.  They collaborate on with the Board of Education and district administrators, serving on district committees.

When you join, you become a member of both the National and NY State PTAs - adding your voice among the hundreds of thousands of members nationwide. You can even save money with your membership. National PTA has partnered with businesses like Hertz and Staples and others on special deals and discounts.

Breakdown of Membership Dues:

Your membership dues are a significant source of income for the PTA - $2.25 is sent to National PTA and $1.75 is sent to NY State PTA. The rest is used by SOCES PTA for our programs, events and enrichments.
